The STIHL Group develops, manufactures and distributes power tools for professional forestry and agriculture, as well as for garden and landscape maintenance, the construction sector and for the demanding private user. Our products are distributed through more than 50,000 approved dealers offering professional advice and technical service in over 160 countries. This demanding task is managed by more than 40 STIHL sales and marketing subsidiaries of its own, and more than 120 importers.
STIHL has manufacturing plants in seven countries: Germany, USA, Brazil, Switzerland, Austria, China and the Philippines. In 2018, STIHL achieved a worldwide turnover of 3.8 billion euros with a workforce of 17,122 men and women. STIHL has been consistently the world’s top selling chainsaw brand since 1971.
Africa is an emerging market with growth potential for the STIHL group. STIHL has been present on the African continent since the early 1960’s when the first STIHL chainsaws officially touched African soil in Gabon.
In 2018 the corporate headquarters in Germany decided to set up a marketing branch in Nairobi, with a mandate to develop the STIHL brand in the East African region by making mechanization easier through supporting both customers and dealers in meeting their marketing and training needs.
Due to the great potential in the East Africa Region, a decision was reached by the board in 2020 to further expand its operations in the region by transitioning from a Marketing and Training branch to a complete Sales Subsidiary with a local distribution hub.
The Sales Subsidiary’s mandate will be to support dealers and customers in the overall sales, marketing and distribution functions. The key support services will range from customer experience management, product training, servicing and maintenance, sales and marketing, product supply and logistics management.
