Following the clear expression from both the public and private sectors in our region of the need to address the perception of political risks in Africa, the assistance of the World Bank was sought to set up a facility that would provide political risk cover for trade transactions into, from and within Africa. The perception of political risks in Africa is high and impact negatively on the development of trade and foreign direct investment and on the level of productive activities in the African economies. It is also an obstacle to availability of finance. ATI was established to facilitate access, to improve the terms of trade finance for the African region and thus to generate more foreign direct investment.
