GBA New Year’s Brunch at Lord Erroll
With almost 200 participants hosted at the Lord Erroll Restaurant in Nairobi, the German Business Association in Kenya (GBA) New Year’s Brunch marked the start of a new decade. On Saturday 18th January 2020 GBA members, friends, and families were treated to smooth jazz performed by renowned singer Alisha Popat, great food and drinks. The event was also graced by German Ambassador to Kenya Mrs. Annett Günther and her Deputy Mr. Thomas Wimmer.
The Brunch also included a raffle with prizes generously sponsored by GBA members. The raffle raised KES86,000 towards supporting the Estel Children’s Center.

GBA Jazz Brunch June 2019
The annual GBA Jazz Brunch took place on 29th June, 2019 in the bright sunshine at the Zen Garden Restaurant in Nairobi. More than 150 GBA members and families enjoyed a delicious buffet, accompanied by jazz sounds of "Jacob Asiyo & Band". During this traditional GBA event, members and their families had the opportunity to talk informally, and network in a relaxed atmosphere. The event was also graced by German Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Annett Günther.

“Continuously Growing”: GBA Welcomes New Members at Networking Breakfast
Six new members of the German Business Association Kenya (GBA) presented themselves on May 9, 2019 as part of a networking breakfast.
With 16 new members having joined in the past year, GBA now has a total of 130 companies as members.
“We are continuously growing and very satisfied about our quality membership development,” Maren Diale-Schellschmidt, Board Secretary of the GBA
and Country Director of the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce (AHK Kenya), said in her welcome address at the event at the Trademark Hotel.
The following presentations by six new members illustrated the broad range of sectors represented in GBA:

Fillies Guineas German Race Day
Fast Five (SAF) rode by Lesley Sercombe took the day at the 2nd Gillies Guineas German Race Day organized by the German Business Association in Kenya and sponsored by AHK. Lesly and Fast Five took home the cup for winning the 5th Race, also the race of the day, dubbed The Fillies Guineas. The event attracted other sponsors namely DT Dobie, Alibhai Shariff, Sixt and KHS each sponsoring a race.
There were 6 other races including the first and second AHK Races won by Macushla rode by J.Lokorian and Korowe rode by J. Muhindi respectively. The third race dubbed The DT Dobie Race was won by Peligroso rode by P.Kiarie. while Gold Pot rode by P. Mungai took the Alibhai Sharif Chilli Cup. Finally, Trade Secret rode by J.Muhindi took home the win for the Sixt Race while Piece of Cake rode by Lesley Sercombe again took the KHS Race.
The event, which attracted hundreds of individuals, families and corporates doubled up as an exciting day or horse racing and a networking opportunity for new relationships and opportunities to be born. We were graced by the presence of the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Kenya, Mrs. Annett Gunther, who presented Ms. Sercombe with the winning cup for the race of the day. Also in attendance was the Deputy Ambassador and Head of Economic Affairs at the German Embassy in Kenya, Mr. Michael Derus, German Business Association Chairlady Danniela Pleitz and AHK Country Director Maren Diale-Schellshcmidt.
Career Fair “Trained in GermanY” Connects Hundreds of Kenyans to Employers
On 21st June 2018 the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Kenya (AHK) hosted the second edition of the “Trained in GermanY” Career Fair at the Mövenpick Hotel & Residences in Nairobi. The fair whose theme was on “The Future of Work” was implemented on behalf of Alumniportal Deutschland with support from the German Business Association.
The career fair which also incorporated an exhibition was inaugurated by H. E. Jutta Frasch, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Kenya along with the Guest of Honor Betty Maina, Principal Secretary, Industrialization, Republic of Kenya, Also present at the opening were Maren Diale- Schellschmidt,Country Director, Delegation of German Industry and Commerce and Secretary of the German Business Association and Sabine Olthof, Project Manager of Alumniportal Deutschland, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
Focusing on the topic “The Future of Work”, this years’ event brought together about 30 exhibitors and more than 550 participants from Kenya and abroad. It was geared towards creating a platform where qualified Germany-Alumni and other qualified professionals would have an opportunity to interact with the leading companies in Kenya.

German School Nairobi wins an award
The German School Nairobi was awarded the third place at the World Conference of the German Delegations of Industry and Commerce in Berlin on 15th May 2018.The school won the prize for its successful partnership with the Star Kid School that is located at Nairobi’s Githongoro slum. The long standing cooperation between the two schools is based on intercultural dialogue, Science education and vocational training. In their partnership, Star Kid School students attend workshops in the Science laboratories of the German School Nairobi while the two schools jointly organize musicals aimed at further fostering the intercultural exchange.The German School Nairobi also offers free German classes to their partner school’s students and is currently taking concrete action in order to provide vocational training from 2020.
Every two years the 140 German Schools abroad located in 71 countries worldwide are called on to apply with innovative school projects and concepts. The German Foreign Minister is the patron of this competition.
